Visit a stretch of the 304-mile MinnCan project pipeline and you
are reminded of a World War I battlefield, with mile after mile of
trench continuing all the way to the horizon. Only instead of coils
of barbed wire, steel pipe is positioned next to the trench, ready
for installation. Far head of the pipe installation crews like an
advance reconnaissance unit, John Deere CT322 Compact Track
Loaders (CTLs) help the environmental crew install erosion-control
measures.
Purpose-built for work in adverse conditions such as steep
slopes, sand, and muddy terrain, the CT322s work like a dream
for erosion-control work. "The areas where we install erosion-control measures are always saturated and hard to get to," says
Michael Hyke, project manager, Minnesota Limited. "The flotation
and traction of the CT322s allow us to install these measures
with ease. They are very versatile pieces of equipment and make
us much more efficient."
Greg Harrington and his partner David Blood-Smyth have over three
decades of combined experience in the rental business, so they didn't
have any qualms about taking on the big boys when they decided to
start Contractors Equipment Center (CEC). Before opening its doors,
CEC purchased a full fleet of John Deere compact machines, from 17D
up to 50D Compact Excavators; from 317 to 320 Skid Steer Loaders;
and 322 and 332 Compact Track Loaders (CTLs).
"We really like the Deere brand and knew customers would be
excited about it," says Blood-Smyth. "The brand comes with a proven
track record of unsurpassed quality, reliability, and dealer support.
When our customers see the John Deere logo on the side of the machine,
they have a lot of confidence in it. They know it's going to be
an exceptional product."
Tight spaces aren't the only places John Deere skid steer loaders and
compact track loaders (CTLs) excel. They’re pretty tightfisted with
your dollars, too. Everything about them has been designed to keep
maintenance simple. And ease of service means more uptime and
lower daily operating costs.
